Born February 20, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio,  Jane G. Cohen studied drawing and painting at Memphis College of Art,  University of Memphis, University of Arizona (C.E.), Scottsdale Artists School ,and Ichiyo Japanese Art Center in Atlanta,Georgia.  Janie holds a B.S. degree in psychology from The University of Memphis. 

Janie  Cohen was a successful insurance consultant by profession and became  an award winning artist by avocation. She now paints on a full-time basis. Her illustrations have appeared in “Project Calendar 1995,” the 1994 issue of “Lifetimes,” and Crafts for the Very Disabled and Handicapped, a full-length book in rehabilitation therapy.  She recently illustrated Expressive Arts for the  Very Disabled and Handicapped, Second Edition.   

Janie also illustrated Inside the Gates, a signed and numbered limited edition of poetry by Constance M. McDonald.  Inside the Gates is available for a limited time at premier galleries and exclusive shops in Denver, Colorado Springs, and mountain resorts of Colorado. 

Janie’s paintings have appeared in local, regional, and national juried shows. HerBest of Friends was selected as one of the 12 award winners for the international competition for Project Calendar 1995, which raised proceeds to benefit the Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome Association of America.  Best of Friendsalso appeared in Memphis,  TN, at the 1996 Arts in the Park; and Bible Totin’ Womenwas exhibited at the TN Center for the Arts in Nashville.

My Country Tis’ of Thee and Purple Mountains Majesty were exhibited at the D’art exhibitions at the Tucson Museum of Art.  Entwined and Hattitude were displayed and auctioned at the Tucson Museum of Art Crush events in 2008 and 2009, respectively.

Janie’s Renewal of Spirit Series hangs at the Arizona Cancer Center. Look Away Dixieland hangs at The Center for Southern Folklore, a museum in Memphis, TN.
